How to display bending parts

Hey Community,

I wondered if and how you can display a part being bent, namely a sheet of metal. One solution that came to my mind is to model the CAD file with the bent part in both configurations in the same place and keep the bent part invisible until it has to be bent and then hide the straight part. Whilst functional, i feel like this isn’t the most elegant way to go about it, especially since it messes up the BOM. So is there a way to show parts being bent in Cadasio or can a single part be imported in multiple configurations (straight/bent)?

Thanks a lot!

Hi @user14099

Interesting question…thanks!

Animating bending parts is difficult, and it’s not something we can do out of the box in Cadasio as it would mean modifying the mesh, which we currently cannot do.

We don’t have a concept of configurations (yet ) so I think the only way would be to have multiple parts. This could be a separate configuration in your CAD software so it doesn’t mess up your CAD BOM. As you say this would only really enable you to be able to fade between the two parts, though with some camera trickery, you may be able to make it look better, hard to say without seeing it though. Alternatively, if you are going to add in another part, you could add in an “assembly” where your sheet metal part has two parts/bodies so you can physically move one in cadasio, that way it would (potentially) look more like it is bending.
