Item number for part with subcomponents

When generating item number bubbles for parts with a part that has many different subcomponents (eg; part 17 has subcomponents 17.1, 17.2 etc) how do I ensure the item number only generates the number of the whole part (In this example just 17)?

Just to make sure I am understanding correctly…You have this sort of structure

  • Part 17
    ** Part 17.1
    ** Part 17.2

and you want them to all to be 17, so

  • Part 17
    ** Part 17
    ** Part 17

Yes that’s the structure but I want to only label the whole part, as in just ‘part 17’, no 17.1, 17.2 etc. Its for a bearing and the ‘whole’ bearing itself is simply just item number 17 in the data table and that’s what I want labelled. I don’t want individual parts within the bearing in the data table or labelled in the presentation using the item number tool.

Would using the option “Top Level Only” achieve do what you want?
