Is there a way to constrain a 3D line to a plane, or snap the points to a plane in the model? Not to an edge or surface in the model. Also, is it possible to extend a 3D line so that it just gets longer or shorter but doesn’t move around or change angle?
Is there any user guide or tutorial video on using 3D lines?
We don’t currently have the concept of planes in the model, to which you can constrain things too. It has not been asked before, but I think it’s a good idea. The only thing we can do is snap to origins(shift) / edges (alt) / centers (ctrl) and faces, also if you press tab when drawing it snaps to a particular axis.
It would be interesting to see what you are trying to achieve, so perhaps we can offer further guidance, or at the very least raise some enhancement requests.
I think our lines are due a refresh at some point so if you have any further suggestions it would be great to hear them.
Ah ha! Using tab to snap to an axis is exactly what I needed! Is that an undocumented feature? The tips that show on the screen when using lines mention the shift/alt/ctrl functions, but not the tab.
The only issue I’m still having is that the snap to edges correctly selects the center of a circle for small circles, but it wants to select the actual edge with larger circles (it won’t snap to the center). I suspect this is due to the resolution of the curvature. I think that is set when the model is uploaded to Cadasio, right? Is there a way to increase the resolution after the fact?
hmm, looks like we have not got that anywhere, we should probably do a tip video and include some pointers in the interface.
Correct. You could change the mesh quality, then update your project. Just be careful as the higher the quality the larger the file - hence longer it takes to load, which may or may not be an issue depending on what you are doing.
